DS-1, NS-2 and API do not (to my knowledge) make reference to the use of permanent magnets instead of AC yoke for locating surface indications for drill stem components, lifting and handling equipment, or related drilling tools and equipment. Is there any reason NOT to allow the use of permanent magnets or any reason for concern (other than company or client restriction) based on the science around the application of NDE?
